As Apple Valley prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary of incorporation next month, it’s a good time to reflect on where the town has come. There is much to applaud, with more retail, dining and entertainment options than ever. And there’s always room for improvement, with ongoing battles with traffic and the need for more high-paying jobs.
It’s also a time of change for the town, with a new town manager, new town attorney, a soon-to-be new mayor in the works and, most recently, a goodbye to the deputy town manager. A new animal shelter is coming, and perhaps a new town-owned country club steeped in 60 years of history.
How do you feel about where Apple Valley has come in the last 20 years? What do you hope to see added to the town or changed in the next 20?
We have opportunities to create GOOD jobs if we use our assets to expand water and sewer into our north AV industrial area. We need to focus on industrial jobs, rather than warehouse, that will pay a living wage. When we have established industrial jobs in the north AV the traffic will shift direction. When everybody doesn’t have to travel out of town to work everyday it will relieve the traffic backup in BV rd. and Hwy 18. The Yucca Loma Bridge (construction to start in 2010) will resolve congestion along our western corridors. The new Town manager is changing the staff and creating a positive, solution oriented, staff we are moving the right direction. Those of use who have lived in Apple Valley a long time can remember what we had and work had to keep that rural environment alive by monitoring residential development and ensuring that we don’t become a group of gated communities who only share roads and lock ourselves behind gates the rest of the time.
great –added more business–but need jobs— added more people and roads / traffic needs help. Progress is amazing.
